Math For Success - Introduction

Here is what people say about Darlene’s Professional Learning Opportunities:

Having Darlene as a mentor for improving my teaching of math was phenomenal !! She utilized a variety of ideas...She had me come watch her, she watched me and gave feedback, I took my whole class to watch her class as well as video- taping a lesson for me. Each time I had a focus and each time we talked about what went well, how to differentiate better, next steps. ..

For anyone who wants to deepen their understanding of their curriculum and how to deliver it using the most recent research practices...use Darlene's mentorship program!!

Mary Schatz - Grade 4 Teacher

Darlene's passion for students to learn about number is contagious! She is always finding new ways to connect real everyday mathematics to the classroom for students. After attending her MFS workshop over 7 years ago, the way I teach mathematics has changed dramatically. I have finished an action research master's project based on the way parents perceive the Alberta Mathematics Curriculum because Darlene challenged me to not only think differently about how math is taught but how to help parents understand "why" we teach math using several strategies not just one traditional algorithm.

Jeannine Ellis, Principal, Bonneville

Darlene Kusick is a math guru.  When she walks into my grade 5/6 classroom to work with my students, the excitement is palpable.  My students are not the only ones excited to learn from her, I am as well.  Her energy pulls us in, and her methods of teaching mathematics keep us engaged. I love the "light bulb" moments that we see continuously in the students when teaching using Darlene's methods.
I cannot say enough about the appreciation I have for Darlene.  She has inspired me to continue growing as a numeracy teacher and to better my practices in order to help my students develop a strong foundation in mathematics. Thank you Darlene!

Dawnna Morgan - Teacher

I first met Darlene Kusick over 10 years ago at Teacher's Convention at her Math for Success session.  Through Darlene's passion and knowledge I became enthusiastic about math and her methodology.

In the last 10 years I have taken her summer courses several times and had her come to our school to share her knowledge.  The program works and teaches students to learn the why and how math happens and not just the answer.  Through phrases like "prove it" and "how do you know?" students must show how they got the answer.   I like how the program teaches all the strands throughout the year.   By the end of the year my students love math and are confident learners.

Darlene is always reading and learning, she is my go to person whenever I have math questions.  I thank Darlene for teaching me to love math and pass that passion onto my students.
