New Teacher Resource for Early Childhood Educators
In the Kindergarten and Grade 1 curriculum, one achievement indicator is included for subitizing. The learning I have gained in my Masters program has demonstrated that subitizing should be a Big Idea in early mathematics.
According to the educational research subtizing is vital to mathematical success in the primary grades and in the later elementary years. For my capping project I chose to complete a teacher resource.
I wrote this resource with the hope to help teachers understand what subitizing is; how subitizing impacts children’s learning of the mathematics curriculum in the early years; and how subitizing impacts students’ learning in the later elementary years.
I have also included in this resource five rich subitizing activities to implement in your classroom.
